Presentations & Events
Most times, you are asked to do a presentation, not a slideshow.
The slideshow is a tool you might want to use to support your presentation.
By approaching the creation of your presentation from this point of view - instead of starting with 'what slides and data do I have?' - you will create a much better presentation.
Focus on context and filling in gaps with personal reflections and understanding is a good way of avoiding the all too common attention-killer that is reading off of a torrent of bullet-points and graphs with too much information.
For a presentation to have impact and be memorable, you need to be perceived as the messenger, not a parrot repeating someone else's words - which is a risk when reading off of a list of bullet-points, repeating the same information that is one the slide.
You need to use your own voice, utilizing words, graphs and images on slides only to support the story you're telling - not the other way around.
